Mother’s Day Plant Sale
May 8 – 11

Spring is finally here and it’s almost time for our annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale! The MsK Rare Plant Nursery, located within the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, will have its traditional plant sale on Mother's Day weekend. The nursery staff has been working hard to increase the inventory of unique plants available. Come and browse our exceptional selection of hardy exotic and Pacific Northwest native plants, including wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and forest floor groundcovers. All proceeds from the sale benefit the garden.

City of Shoreline Purchases Garden

On January 11, 2008, Dr. Art Kruckeberg completed the sale of the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden to the City of Shoreline. The garden is now part of the Shoreline Parks Department and is preserved forever for the benefit of all. The purchase was made possible by the citizens of Shoreline, who in 2006 passed the Parks, Open Space and Trails bond levy that included $950,000 for the purchase of the garden. Thanks to the many people who worked hard on the vote, and to the forward-thinking citizens of Shoreline.

The Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Foundation has a three-year service agreement with the City of Shoreline and is responsible for operation of the garden. The Foundation offers tours, docent training, and educational programs in partnership with the City. Funds for these activities and maintenance of the garden will come from a variety of sources, including membership, donations, earned income and an endowment. The City of Shoreline will also provide limited funding for the duration of the service agreement. Successful examples of public gardens owned by public entities and run by private foundations include Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle and the Arnold Arboretum in Boston.

The Foundation is also now the owner and operator of the MsK Rare Plant nursery located on the garden grounds. The nursery was created in the 1970’s by Maureen Kruckeberg and specializes in propagating the unique plants found in the garden. Dr. Art Kruckeberg will continue to live on the property as part of a life estate.

Please stay involved as we proceed with this exciting new partnership! We’ll need your continued support as the garden enters this new chapter of its history.

Please don’t hesitate to be in touch for more information.
