Volunteer Opportunities at the Garden

Whether your thumb is green or not, the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden has a volunteer opportunity for you. This unique garden relies on volunteers to make sure it continues to be a special place for the community. Our volunteer programs are rewarding, enjoyable and flexible. We welcome you to become a part of our volunteer community.

This will help us match you up with an existing volunteer opportunity - or maybe even inspire us to create a new one.

Volunteer Programs
Please take a look at some of our ongoing volunteer opportunities. Most include on-the-job training.

  • Sunday Work Parties: We hold garden maintenance work parties from 1-3pm the first and third Sunday of each month between March and November. Please join us to help weed, rake and mulch!

  • Community Event / Outreach Volunteers: Represent the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden at community outreach festivals and garden shows, including staffing our booth at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show.

  • Mother’s Day Sale: Our Annual Mother’s Day Sale is our biggest event of the year and requires all hands on deck. We'll provide training to help you prepare for your shift. This year will be the 25th Anniversary of the Sale - we'd love for you to join us for this momentous occasion!

  • Garden Greeters: Volunteer Garden Greeters are the first point of contact for visitors. We ask Garden Greeters to staff at least one shift a month.

  • Docents: Volunteer Docents lead garden tours and participate in leadership roles throughout the foundation. New Docent Training is held every other year.

  • Thursday Gardeners: This team meets weekly from March - November to help with general garden maintenance. New team members may join anytime.

  • Volunteer Propagators: NEW! Starting in February, 2012, we will be starting a pilot volunteer propagation program. Volunteers will work with nursery staff twice monthly to learn how to propagate new plants to help supply the MsK Nursery.

  • Group Work Parties: NEW! Bring your work or civic group to the Garden for a work party. Groups of six or more will also get a free Garden Intro tour during their stay. Groups may come during our regular first and third Sunday work parties, or may schedule other times.

Volunteer Appreciation
Relax and enjoy the company of other Kruckeberg Volunteers while at a garden open house in the garden of a fellow volunteer. We’ll provide snacks, good company and garden inspiration! Details will be sent to all active volunteers.
