Acer circinatum – Vine Maple

Not a vine, so where does the name come from? Venture into the Olympic rain forest and you’ll see how this small multi-stemmed tree grows much more horizontally as it spreads out in the low sunlight. Early explorers and loggers likened this growth to a vine and the name stuck. In sunlight, it’s an upright small tree to 20’ or more displaying gorgeous fall colors from yellows and oranges to red.
