Classes & Workshops

PLANT PROPAGATION BY CUTTINGS WITH HEIDI KOONZ

Saturday, July 10th, 2021 | 10:30 am

Learn the skillful art of vegetative propagation by cuttings, using shrubs and herbaceous plants found throughout the Kruckeberg Garden. Learn how to make your thumbs greener, (hint hint, lots of humidity), and help round out your propagation tool belt! In this quick and comprehensive class, you will create a tray of cuttings to take home, the skills to grow them on, and a list of resources for further study.

Our instructor will be one of our own staff horticulturists, Heidi Koonz.  Heidi has been working at the garden since 2003, before it became a public garden.  Her background is focused on horticulture and landscape design, which she earned an Associate’s degree at South Seattle College in 2002.  She has a keen focus on fern propagation and herbalism.

Our workshops fill up fast, registration is required.

TOURS

Visitors to the Garden and Nursery are welcome Friday through Sunday during open hours.

PRIVATE TOURS

Private, docent-led tours are available by arrangement and provide an overview of the plant collection, the history and origins of the garden, along with discussions about the future. Tours are $10/person, with a $60 minimum. Private tours can be arranged for Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday during the week, as well as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All tours are booked in advance by contacting the garden at kbgf@kruckeberg.org.

SELF-GUIDED TOURS

Self-Guided Tours – See the Garden through the eyes of Walt Bubelis,  professor emeritus of horticulture, through this series of seasonal self-guided tours. Use your smartphone to scan the QR codes posted throughout the Garden to learn more about each featured plant.

Bird Tour brochure – The Kruckeberg Garden is home to over 40 bird species. Download our self-guided bird tour and checklist, or pick one up at the Garden kiosk.

BEFORE YOUR TOUR

All visitors must remain on the paths to avoid soil compaction and damage to plants. The upper garden is flat, but not paved. The path to the lower garden is relatively steep (beyond ADA standard slope) but in some cases can be manageable by wheelchairs. We recommend that you visit in advance of your tour if you have concerns about accessibility. There are limited restroom facilities at the Garden and no wheelchair accessible restrooms. Please plan accordingly.
